Some have asked how we transport our bikes with the trailer. A lot of people just put their bikes on the back of their trailer. To me it’s bumpy back there, very visible when parking, and bikes can get dirty if not bagged. Instead, I keep our bicycles in the back of the truck under the shell to keep them safe and clean.
In order to fit them in, the front wheels are removed using the quick-release hubs. I cut an 8″ board to be the width of the truck bed, and bolted fork-mounts (also with quick release) sized to the length of each bike.

I lift the back wheel onto the tailgate, then turn the bike at a slight angle to get the seat past the top opening of the truck shell, slide it in and straighten it back upright, and put the front forks of the bicycle into the fork mounts. An couple of old wheel support from our tent-trailer days secures the front wheels to each side of that same board.

And after the bikes are loaded I have room between the bikes to add more storage. Small wood blocks secure two storage tubs between the bike frames preventing any sliding into the bike gears. We have a short-bed F150 and the bikes are a perfect fit for the tailgate to close.

Here’s view of our campsite at the RV Park in Oklahoma City. We are in spot W-1 overlooking a nice pond. This is a great site without neighbors on either side. Nice! And you can’t see our bikes inside the darkened shell. ; )

Well, we’re about to go out in 20 mph winds and enjoy another ride down a short Oklahoma Katy trail to the North Canadian River. See ya!
