Today our destination was Amarillo, Texas, heading southeast on Highway 285 on an easy, but windy, 260 mile journey. 285 is a lonely highway and over 45 minutes of it there wasn’t but one house and, of course, no cell phone service.
We arrived in Amarillo at 3:30 pm, set up the rig in a pull-through, and decided it would be good to get some exercise on a bike ride. We are 2 miles out of town and rode on the business loop of Highway 40 to the start of our trail.
The Rock Island Rail Trail in Amarillo is built on an old rail corridor from an older part of the city into the heart of downtown.
It’s a great concrete trail with lots of grass on both sides. We biked over 11 miles on another windy day to meet our move and exercise goals. We’ve gotta say, if biking against the wind was a lucky charm, we would be playing the lottery today as we are 6-for-6 bike rides against 20+ mile headwinds.

We are grateful for healthy lungs, strong legs, and good stamina that help us see our way through. Tomorrow I’m sure we will be singing some Roger and Hammerstein songs to Oklahoma City, which is our next destination.
