Our action-packed day had hiking, smells, was brilliant and fun, and full of good eats. We took a leisurely pace to start the day… first with a hike from the Lake McDonald Lodge to a small lake called John’s Lake. It was an easy five mile round trip, but to our surprise it was also a horse trail. Many flies, mosquitos and careful steps later, we arrived at the quiet, small, lake. Nice. Then it was down to McDonald Falls and bone-chilling cold water that Ted, of course, took-off his shoes to enjoy. A nice stop at the half-way point. Here’s a pic of that falls, with added comments about the rest of the day below it.
We then hiked back to the lodge, then got in our car for a drive to the “Road to the Sun” – Logan Pass. It had been closed the past 3 days due to 12 rock slides after a series of fierce thunderstorms, and we were among the first back to the top after it re-opened with a one mile section of one-lane road. Majestic! Inspiring! God-drenched beauty! Awesome! Back to McDonald Lodge for a nice meal, then a return to our tent-trailer in Mountain Meadows to do some laundry, and get in good showers! : ) Tomorrow, we hope to rent kayaks and enjoy the morning hours on the lake. Enjoy this picture of us at the top of Logan Pass…
