On Monday, we left Alabama’s interstate potholes behind us, but took great memories with us, and came in to Nashville on smooth Tennessee freeways – we suppose because gas is a bit higher to pay for better roads. Gone are the $3.89/gallon prices; we’re now back into the four dollar range.

Upon arrival, Ted went to work on the trailer toilet which has a very small “fresh-water” leak, and replaced the water valve, but the problem turned out to a non-replaceable part and will require a new toilet. Ted installed a 1/2″ cap on that water line to stop water going to the toilet as a temp fix, so all is well, and no damage done. See, trailers are fun! ; ) But the next morning was a relaxing one and we made it our laundry day-of-the week at this KOA. We then drove to our next bike ride.

We biked the Cumberland River Parkway, a seven mile pathway from downtown, along the banks of the pretty Cumberland River, up to the bridge at Clarksville Pike.

Sue boldly rides down Nashville's Broadway Street amidst the loud guitars and drums playing live music from dozens of bars.

After our return trip we explored downtown Nashville and Sue boldly rode her bicycle on Broadway! Find Sue in this picture of country music bars! We then went to lunch at Hattie B’s famous hot fried chicken. Even with an hour long wait, it did not disappoint.

Here you can specify the ‘degree of hotness’ in your chicken – from mild to ‘Shut the Cluck Up’ (so hot the staff almost tries to talk you out of ordering it).

There was a convention of Car Wash vendors in town and we talked with a guy who wants to open his own car wash. We also enjoyed the usual people-watching. On our ride back to the truck, we made a quick stop at the original Ryman Theater – the heart and home to country music from 1943-74. The last time we were here, Ted and Sue held a guitar on it’s famous stage for a picture, but this time Ted just held his bike on the outside steps!

So, being in ‘Music City’, Ted felt he just had to compose a quick country song:

We rode on into Nashville,
without guitars or a song,
Seeing the place – well, we’ve been here before,
So in the morning, we’ll be gone.

We rode bikes by the river,
on Cumberland’s curvy path,
Eating our lunch, at downtown Hattie B’s,
With a smile, and a laugh.

CHORUS:

We saw drummers in the windows,
Guitar riffs blasted in the bars,
We saw men in suits, and tourists in boots,
For just a few blocks, we didn’t go far.

We love just to visit Nashville,
We love this country stay,
Forget all the sights, we’re relaxing tonight,
We’re just doing it our own way!

Laughing all the way,
Sue and Ted
