Today, we simply drove from Kinsale to Kenmare via the scenic route. We stopped at Drombeg Circle, which is like a small Stonehenge, and it dates back 3,000 years.
Both Lyle Carter and our Kinsale B&B host, recommended going over the Beara peninsula pass. It was a fun and beautiful drive… Dry and rocky on the County Cork side and green with lakes on the Kerry side.
Although we are used to warm weather, it is unseasonably hot in Ireland. The locals are saying it is the hottest week they’ve had in four, maybe twenty years. We feel very fortunate to be here with great visibility having avoided the damp and rain. The people of Ireland are lovely, and it is so easy to start conversations with anyone at anytime. One thing about the roads however… The speed limits are fast! 100 km/hr is not unusual for small windy roads. Highway 9 in the Santa Cruz highways is tame compared to these roads… Ted loves this place! Here’s a parting picture from our drive today. We are enjoying the backroads of Ireland!!! Love to all of you.
