With gusty winds on the first half of our ride that were at times so stiff that they nearly blew us over, the successful completion of the 35 mile River Mountains Loop Trail felt like a true victory.
This trail runs on a loop around the River Mountains which form the backdrop of Las Vegas and Henderson. The route links the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam, and Boulder City. A section of the trail occupies an old section of the railroad that once ran from Boulder City to Hoover Dam, supplying materials to build the dam.
Unlike the normal rail-to-trail paths that we like to frequent, this trail was much steeper and we climbed over 2,500 feet, with a lot of ups-and-downs in between! It was certainly the longest and steepest path that we have ever biked which made the accomplishment that much sweeter. Our toast at happy hour this evening felt richly deserved.
Another high point of our time here in Nevada was the opportunity to have dinner with Sue’s FUHSD colleague April Perez-Costello and her husband Jack. We had a great time reminiscing about the old days, catching-up on the present, and sharing dreams for the future. Indeed, life is so sweet and best shared with others.
Here is Sue’s ReLive video of this great ride:
Thanks for virtually joining us on our adventures – tomorrow we head to New Mexico for a one-night stay-over on our way east to Santa Fe.

Enjoyed all your comments. In the past I was able to click on the photo for a better view. Is that possible this trip? I won’t be commenting too much on your travels, but please know that I enjoy this vicarious venture (keep sending).
