We were at Alcova Lake all last weekend with our best friends the Nielsens: Dave and Kathy, and their daughter Rebecca. Alcova is on the North Platte River near Casper, Wyoming. It’s a beautiful rocky area of Wyoming where the ground is uplifted at 20% angles, so the deeper you go into the lake canyon on a boat ride, the more layers of rock are exposed. But we had limited internet so here’s what happened a couple of days ago. We jumped in the lake, played with the dog, watched the bunny rabbits and deer scurry about, enjoyed walks, and made good conversation all day. The first dinner of BBQ chicken, grilled corn and salad was a hit. The BBQ salmon dinner with asparagas on the second night was divine. Our days and evenings then had even more conversation. Good friends are priceless.
Casper and Alcova were in the total blackout area for the eclipse, and really enjoyed it, but that will be it’s own post on the next blog. There are no maddening crowds here. It’s a remote location and it has been very quiet all weekend. A Fish and Game Officer I met said Casper officials are expecting their greater city area to grow from 500,000 to one million people on Monday for the eclipse, and the newspaper estimated 1 million people did arrive in Wyoming to see the eclipse. We were hunkered down at this lake until Tuesday morning.
