We flew into Sydney on Saturday, Feb 18, and immediately purchased our Opal public transit cards, taking the train to Wynyard Station to check into the Westin for five days.  We have two sets of friends to catch up with in this city, plus several days all to ourselves to explore. Sydney is a great walking city with wonderful public transit options and each day we have walked at least five miles, and rode trains, ferries, and buses.

On Sunday:

  • Hillsong Worship:  We rode a bus about two miles to the main Hillsong City church site and enjoyed a joyous worship experience.  To get details on our visit to Hillsong, you can read Ted’s detailed review on his own blog at ThisNextChapter
  • Sunset Jazz Dinner on Fort Denison Island with California friends Sam and Sharon Zuccaro.  We rode a water taxi to that National Park and had a wonderful dinner.

On Monday:

  • Manly Beach: We walked to the Circular Quay, enjoyed brunch, took a 30 minute ride on the ferry to spend the early afternoon at Manly Beach.  Both of us got in the water, and Ted even caught a few body-surfing waves.
  • Bondi Beach Walk: One of our goals was to stroll the walk along the cliffs near Bondi Beach which was breathtaking. We took a train and a bus ride to get there and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon looking at golden beaches and ocean waves crashing on rocks.
Here are some pictures from our first couple of days in Sydney.
