On Saturday and Sunday, we rode the bus from Seward to Denali National Park, with a stopover on Saturday night in Anchorage.

Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city, and we spent some time in the city, enjoying lunch and dinner. We visited the Alaska Native Heritage Center and learned of the customs and traditions of the clans and tribes that originated in this area.

During Sunday’s ride from Anchorage to Denali, we stopped in two small towns along the way.  In the 1930s, the U.S. government encouraged midwest farmers to move to Alaska and partially built the community of Palmer for them.  Interesting history.

The second town we visited, Talkeetna, is the town based on the old TV series Northern Exposure and was a hoot to walk around, see the general store, and have food at a pub. We also stopped at the nearby birch tree syrup farm, and got a tour, and taste, of how they make syrup in Alaska!  Yummm….good samples!
