We flew to Vancouver, Canada, on Thursday morning before the sun rose and we enjoyed a beautiful, warm day in a city that looks splendid following the 2010 Olympics they hosted. It’s the third largest city in Canada, and this greater metropolitan area is populated by 2.5 million people. Immediately after dropping off our bags in a downtown hotel we took a city free shuttle to visit Vancouver’s #1 tourist attraction since 1910 and enjoy views from suspended bridges and walkways over a rushing river gorge.
The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in Vancouver is described as “naturally thrilling” and it sure lives up to that billing!
We braved heights of rocking and rolling suspension walkways 230 feet above a roaring river, frolicked on a network of treetop adventure walkways amidst old-growth Douglas firs, and ambled on a series of cliff-walks along a sheer granite cliff that offered stunning canyon views. Our Apple Watch clocked us at over 11,000 steps by the end of our first day. This Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is highly recommended if you find yourself in this part of the world! It was a wonder-filled experience.
All that adventuring got us hungry for a dinner, and we wanted a glorious view. The “Top Of Vancouver” looks like the Seattle Space Needle, and has a rotating restaurant 555′ above the cruise ship terminal and an easy nine blocks from our hotel. Rotating once per hour, we had stunning views of Vancouver and enjoyed a sunset dinner.
Day 1 was a great start to this vacation with our friends, Mike and Joanie Kernaghan. We’ve been good friends for a long time, having known Mike since college days. Today we are off to board a cruise ship for seven days at sea… north to Alaska!
