Our vacation began at the break of dawn on Sunday as the jet roared into the sky for a five-hour flight to Atlanta, followed by a four-hour layover, then a nine-hour flight.

The second flight path took us north over New York as the earth spun its magic of moving Europe toward us, east to west, and when we awoke to breakfast, flying southeast over London, Paris, and the Alps just before landing in Milan, Italy.
This vacation is a double-date – our good friends Dave and Kathy Nielsen met us at the airport, and we took the smooth running electric train to our hotel. Immediately after check in, we began a 45 minute walk toward the Duomo.
Seeing Milan at ground level walking is much better than starting life in a city on the subway. In regular vacation attire, as we walked 1.5 miles, we felt a bit under-dressed among these city-folks that pride themselves on fashion. We finally arrived at the Duomo Cathedral.

Since the gals were not in appropriate “church attire” (knees covered and no bare shoulders) we viewed it from the square and continued to observe it from the 7th floor of a high class shopping mall as we ate lunch.
Across from the Duomo is the La Scala opera house with its day-tours at the Museo Teatrale Alla Scala. The Teatrale opened in 1778 and is old-fashioned gorgeous on the inside. Tonight is opening night and we saw a flurry of activity on stage and at the producer podiums. Our walk home included a stop for espresso, some grocery shopping, and a light dinner sitting at a sidewalk cafe for two hours of fun talking.
Oh yea, I think we will be successful getting into the new time zone!
Don’t forget Pecks Meat Market about two blocks from the Duomo.
