We Drove to Windy Welly (what the locals call Wellington), the capital of New Zealand. It is windy! It rained most the way during our nine-hour car drive to the south point of the north island. We saw Lake Taupo (the largest lake in NZ) and the Huku Falls, which spills out of that Lake.
Huku Falls is incredible: 300 tons of water per second flows down this massive river channel which is enough to fill an Olympic sized pool every eleven seconds!
The river is the largest supplier of electricity for New Zealand and there are seven power plants along the river. And, equally impressive is the color of the water – an amazing mix of white, azure, and turquoise.
We’ll be here in Wellington for a couple of days exploring the city, and we are definitely planning on visiting for the Great War exhibition and the waterfront.
